Planning Ahead

Why Should I Plan Ahead?

Many people find it comforting to pre-plan their funeral or memorial services.

Pre-planning can be as simple as a call to the funeral home letting us know your wishes verbally, or as complete as sitting down and selecting all goods and services needed.

Josh Kirsh serves as an Advanced Planning Specialist at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson, helping individuals and families make thoughtful, personal decisions about how they want to be remembered.

Josh believes advance planning is about much more than selecting funeral arrangements. It is about listening to a person’s story, understanding the traditions and relationships that have shaped their life, and helping create a meaningful experience for the family and friends who will one day gather to remember them.

Josh has experience assisting families with Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian funeral traditions, as well as green and natural burial planning. He appreciates that every family approaches death, remembrance, and ritual differently, and he takes the time to understand the religious, cultural, and personal traditions that matter to each individual.

A graduate of Carmel High School and the University of Colorado Boulder, Josh has deep roots in the Carmel community and a long history of civic involvement. Over the years, he has served the community through numerous boards, commissions, and volunteer organizations, reflecting his genuine love for Carmel and the people who call it home.

Josh is married to Aaron-Ruben-Nelson President Jennifer Nelson Williams and is the proud father of Holden. For Josh, joining Aaron-Ruben-Nelson is another way to continue a lifetime of service—helping families plan with compassion, creativity, and intention while honoring the people, traditions, and memories that matter most.

His philosophy is simple: "The most meaningful goodbyes are the ones that feel unmistakably like the person being remembered."  Learn more at JoshuaKirsh.com

Benefits of Preplanning

Peace of Mind

By letting the staff of ARN know of your wishes in advance, you provide peace of mind to your loved ones and to yourself.

Knowing we have the information takes the guesswork out of the planning process.

Paying in Advance

Pre-planning can include pre-payment but advance payment is not required.

We do offer convenient payment programs to fit any budget. The money is placed in a trust for your protection. A benefit to fully pre-funding the arrangement is that the price is then "locked-in" at today's prices.

Our preneed counselors are happy to discuss the financial benefits of pre-planning with you.

Planning Ahead Relieves The Burden From Family

Following the death of a loved one, there are more than 150 decisions that have to be made within the first day or two following the death. Those stressful decisions on top of the stress of grieving a loss can be eliminated by arranging your final wishes ahead of time. If those decisions are made, your loved ones aren’t left wondering what you would have wanted and how they should proceed with funeral plans. With those decisions out of the way, your loved one can begin the healing process sooner.

Planning Ahead Lets Your Wishes Be Known

The death of a loved one often brings about unwarranted stress and turmoil among families. One family member wants one thing, while another family member wants something different. By planning ahead, you help prevent those disagreements by letting your family know what your wishes are and how you want your funeral service to be carried out and your business handled.

Common Questions about Preplanning

  • What steps are involved in prearranging a funeral?

The first step would be to write down your wishes. Indicate if you would prefer burial or cremation. Write down your ideas for the service you would like, cemetery choice, etc. If you've made those choices, or even if you're unsure, schedule a time to meet with one of our funeral directors who can explain the different service options, merchandise choices, as well as the different ways to pay for the funeral.

  • What information do I need to prearrange a funeral?

You'll need basic information about yourself or the person you are planning for, such as date of birth, marital status, parent's full names, etc. Besides the biological information, you'll need to choose burial or cremation, what type of service you'd like, what cemetery to use, etc. Our caring staff will help you with this process.

  • Do I have to pay in advance?

Preplanning is merely making your wishes known; however, most families who do this also choose to pre-fund their funeral. Doing so will relieve the financial burden on your family and offer peace of mind to you.

  • Can I transfer my plans to or from another funeral home?

If you have plans at another funeral home and would like to move them here, we will help you do that. If you move from the area and would like to transfer your arrangements to another funeral home, we will assist you with that as well.
