Sherry Lynn (Morphew) Farmer

June 28, 1941 — April 20, 2023

Sherry Lynn Farmer, 81, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023.  She was born in Danville, IN to the late Cecil William and Mildred Lucille Morphew on June 28, 1941.

In her young years, she attended school in Danville, and Cascade, IN and after high school she married Arnold Quintine "Tine" Farmer on April 5, 1958.  They began their life together in Lawton, Oklahoma while Tine was in basic training for the U.S. Army.  After Tine left the service, they moved to Cloverdale, IN for a short time and then from there, to Danville, IN where they settled and were married for 55 1/2 years before Tine’s passing.

Over the years, they raised four children and enjoyed watching the family grow.  Sherry was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, always putting her family first as they meant everything to her. She found the greatest joy in being with all her relatives at family gatherings and reunions.

Sherry was a very creative and talented woman, and enjoyed drawing and sewing.  Being an excellent seamstress, she made a lot of her children’s clothing, beautiful dresses and gowns, and many costumes and uniforms for her family as well as employees of the family businesses.

During the early years of her marriage, she juggled a small childcare business, helped her husband manage Tine’s TV Sales & Service, took care of her own family, and was even able to use her drawing skills to do illustrations for a tool catalog.  After too many little hands scribbled additions to her artwork, she decided to put it aside until her children were older.

In the late 70’s through the early 90’s, Tine and Sherry owned several successful nightclubs in Speedway, IN including The Warehouse Lounge and Cowboys. Located very close to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the couple were kept very busy during racing season in Indy.  During that time period, Sherry also owned and operated Tan Easy Tanning Salon in Indianapolis for a number of years before selling it and becoming a realtor and broker for over 20 years.  She worked for Century 21, Remax, and Carpenter Realty before retiring in 2007.  Sherry was also always willing to offer her time to anyone in need, and  volunteered at the Julian Center in Indianapolis for several years.

Being outdoors and enjoying the beauty of nature was another one of her greatest joys, nowhere more so than beside the creek that flowed behind their home, picking up rocks and little treasures.  She loved nature and animals and enjoyed feeding the squirrels, birds, and chipmunks outside her back door.

Having a true love for birds, Sherry owned several in her lifetime, including cockatiels, parakeets, and even an African Grey parrot who brought her so much happiness since the bird could mimic her voice and laugh and mock all the surrounding noises and beeps that fooled everyone.

Sherry was a beautiful woman, inside and out, and had a fun-loving personality that made her easy to love.  With a big heart for people, she always had a way to make everyone feel comfortable as she was so accepting of others. While so fun to be around, she had a great sense of humor, and gave the world her biggest smile.

In 1994, she gave her life to Christ and was a member of Plainfield Christian Church.  For the last 16 years of her life, she suffered with Dementia and a later diagnosis of melanoma. Sherry was an amazingly strong woman and put up a good fight, which was no surprise to all that loved her.  She will be remembered by her family, nurses, and caregivers for her love of all types of music and dancing. Nothing could hold her down when she heard music. It brought her to life again, and made her so very happy which made her all the more loveable to those around her. Now she is finally healed and home, and can rest in the arms of Jesus.

Sherry is survived by daughters, Tina Blake (Bob) and Shellie Driggers (Steve); son, Jason Farmer (Glenis); brother, Carl Morphew; sister, Phyllis Brown; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tine Farmer; son, Kipp Farmer; brother, Terrell Morphew; and sisters, Janice Smith and Karen Northrop.
