Robert Edward Green

February 1, 1940 — August 17, 2022

Robert Edward Green, 82, Noblesville, IN, passed away after a long battle with metastatic cancer on August 17, 2022. He was one of the most caring, friendly and honest men to ever grace our planet.

Bob, as he was known to almost everyone, was quick with a joke and considered his life well-lived, with few regrets. A lovable curmudgeon, he was nicknamed "Grumps" or "Grumpy" by his grandchildren.

Born on February 1, 1940 and raised in rural Franklin Township, Marion County, IN, Bob was the youngest of 4 children from his parents, the late William Herman Green and Bertha Mae (Mourning) Green. He is survived among his siblings by his sister, Norma Foley. His other siblings were his late brother, William "Bill" Green, and his late sister, Pauline Lawson.

Bob graduated from Franklin Township High School in 1958. In his youth, he was very mechanically-inclined and loved to work on cars with his friend, which led to him meeting his first wife, Linda.

He is survived by his two sons, David Green and Todd Green, who were born in 1966 and 1970.

Bob was a wonderful dad and his kids meant everything to him. He coached and mentored children (including his own) in youth football, baseball, soccer and scouting. Some of his fondest memories were taking his sons on trips to see the splendor of our great country, with a special place in his heart for hiking in nature.

He encouraged his sons' love of comic books, science fiction/fantasy, video games, movies and concerts, which eventually led to both of them having successful careers in the entertainment industry. He was very proud of his sons' accomplishments, and it gave them great pleasure when Bob went to see a concert with a stage that Todd built, or when he went to see a movie that David worked on.

Bob was a member of the Air National Guard from 1963 to 1969. He spent his career at Naval Avionics in Indianapolis, where he worked from 1959 to 1995. His role was to oversee vendors who bid on jobs to create parts for the US Navy, to make sure that contractors were capable of delivering on their promises to produce quality parts that would keep our troops safe.

Bob also put his skilled hands to good use, building 4 houses in the Carmel, IN area, 3 of them on E 101st Street.

"The thing I remember most about Dad was how many friends he had, between work, our schools and his neighbors in the community. We would go to a shopping center and it seemed like he was stopping every 5 minutes to say 'Hello' to someone he knew. He was clearly well-liked by everyone," his son David recalls.

Bob married the love of his life, Margaret (Baker) Green, on February 15, 1992. They were married for 30 years.

Marge Green was the yin to his yang. While Bob could be very happy sitting on the couch with the newspaper and working on suduko or crosswords puzzles, Marge kept him active and vital, doing projects around the house, helping with her businesses, going on trips to see family and friends and even enlisting him to volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville.

With his marriage, Bob inherited a new extended family that he embraced and loved as his own, beginning with Marge's children, Craig (Nora) Baker, Beth (Tim) Meister, Doug Baker, and Cathleen "Kasha" (Jim) Vieceli; his new grandchildren, Emily Meister, Erin Frieden, Ryan Horn, Alma Baker and Soma Baker; and his great-grandchildren, Enley and Emma Frieden.

There was nothing Bob loved more than the time he spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

With Todd's marriage, Bob treasured his visits to Nashville, TN to spend time with his daughter-in-law, Sharon Green. He had great admiration for Sharon's independent spirit. Bob took tremendous satisfaction putting his skills to use in helping Todd and Sharon with their home renovations and later having a chance to visit with them, while their "fur babies" (rescue dogs) cuddled up on his lap.

Bob enjoyed sports, especially golf, which was both a source of inspiration and frustration to him. Most golf outings ended with him threatening to throw away his clubs forever, but he never did. Later in life, he became a legend around the Stony Creek pickleball courts.

Bob was a dedicated "armchair athlete", with a passion for many sports, including golf, basketball, football and auto racing, with a particular love for Butler Bulldogs basketball and Indianapolis Colts football, as well as fantasy football.

He was also very active in his neighborhood and enjoyed get-togethers with this many friends at The Highlands Stony Creek of Noblesville.

Mourning his loss are the family of his sister Norma, including Dan Foley, Joe Foley and Linda Vodney, as well as their spouses Cheri Foley, Charlene Foley and Steve Vodney, along with their children and grandchildren.

Also bereaved are the siblings of wife Marge Green, including Carol (Tom) Ryan and Bill (Tink) Linden; the spouses and partners of Marge's grandchildren: Edwin Frieden, Gurion Lantz, Jordan Horn and Gabriel Trefethen; and many others on the Baker side of the family.

To say that he will be missed is the understatement of a lifetime.

We raise a Captain & Coke in his honor.

A Celebration of Life event will be held to honor his memory on Monday, September 26th, from 4 pm to 7 pm, at Prairie View Golf Club (7000 Longest Dr, Carmel, IN  46033).
