Judith "Judi" Ella (Meek) Bowes

December 11, 1931 — November 5, 2021

Judith Meek Bowes nee Judith Ella Meek

December 11, 1931 - November 5, 2021

Judi was born to James Perry Meek and Mary Robertson Meek in Indianapolis, Indiana.  She attended Tudor Hall, Pembroke College and Indiana University.  In her seventies, she obtained a Real Estate license and Certified Nursing Assistant degree.

Judi Bowes never stopped learning, living and doing.  She was a docent at the IMA/Newfields, a member of the Junior League, St. Margaret's Guild, Trailing Arbutus Garden Club, Meals on Wheels along with her churches - be it Trinity Episcopal, St. Luke's Episcopal in Hilton Head, SC, or St. Paul's Episcopal of Indianapolis.

There was not a sport she would shy away from: tennis, horseback riding, ice skating - but golf was her true love.  If Judi was not out running around, the bridge table called.  When Random Acts of Flowers opened five years ago, it became her newest passion.

In 1981, Judi and her husband Bob, who sold his company Bowes Seal Fast Corporation in 1979, moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina. Judi and Bob opened Harbour Town Antiques and became business partners in Knickers Clothiers.  Various buying trips and retail business activities kept Judi very busy.  At St. Luke's Hilton Head, Judi embraced Altar Guild, Flower Guild and Bible Study.  She even went to the National Cathedral for classes on flower arranging.  Judi lived on Hilton Head for 34 years before returning to Indianapolis in 2013, several years after Bob's passing.

Family, faith, friends, flowers and fun were key pillars that she lived by.

Survivors include her daughter, Katherine (Dan) Bowes Appel; son, Stuart Duncan (Wendy) Bowes; daughter-in-law, Thamsin (Malcolm) Bowes; brother, Perry Robertson Meek; grandchildren, Malcolm Christopher Bowes,  Robert Malcolm Bowes, IV, Andrew Stewart (Susan) Appel, Mary Elizabeth (Max Felker-Kantor) Appel, and Leslie (Ira) Appel Maher; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Charlie and Oliver Appel, and Abigail and Olivia Maher; sister-in-law, Nancy Meek; and nieces and nephews, Frank Cuozzi, Carrie (Bill) Cuozzi, Sarah Meek Hoffnung, Travis (Katie) Meek, Kris Meek, Eric Meek, and Melanie Meek Atnip.

Judi was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Bowes II; son, Robert M. Bowes III; brothers, Frank and Jack Meek; and parents, Perry and Mary Meek.

Funeral services will be held at 4 PM on Wednesday, November 10th at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.  Friends are welcome to call from 3 PM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park-Tudor School, Random Acts of Flowers, St. Paul's Church or a charity of the donor's choosing.
