Camby

Mrs. Christina K. Smith passed peacefully at her home in Camby, IN surrounded by her loving family after suffering many years from Pulmonary Fibrosis.  She leaves behind her husband, Walter Smith; son, Scott Gasaway; daughter, Wendy Stidam (Charles); three grandchildren, Katarina Mitchell (Mark), Dylan Michell, and Jordan Mitchell; and three great-grandchildren, Markleigh Holt, Isaiah Mitchell, and Brison Mitchell.

Christina was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Mary Walker; brother, Don Hawk; and three sisters, Doni Johnson, Kandy Floyd, and Darlane Lloyd.

Christina worked at the Social Security Administration (SSA) for 38 years in numerous positions of increasing responsibility, retiring in 2011 as an Operation Supervisor at the Indianapolis West Side SSA office. She was incredibly proud of the many years that she served her country. She trained several generations of employees who benefited greatly from her knowledge, commitment to public service and the sense of empathy and urgency that she passed along to them.

After retiring, Chris kept very busy, joining several writing groups on social media, involving role playing. She also enjoyed crafting elegant personalized greeting cards and making holiday wreaths and other crafts for family and friends. Chris was also an excellent cook and baker, whose creations were enjoyed by family, friends and co-workers.

You may make donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in Chris’ memory to help in the search for a cure and effective treatment for this incurable, life-ending disease. Family and friends will be having a celebration of life in Chris’ memory at a later date.
