Catherine Marie "Catie" (Conerty) Paul

July 15, 1953 — July 28, 2022

Indianapolis

Catherine "Catie" Marie Paul passed away on July 28, 2022, with her beloved husband, Michael "Mike"; cherished son, Matthew "Matt" Paul; and daughter-in-law, Katie by her side. Catherine was born in 1953, the daughter of James and Mary Conerty of Fort Riley, Kansas. She is survived by seven of the eight children born to the Conerty family.

Catie and Mike were married 36 years and became the proud parents of son Matt in 1986. Matt, who married Katie in February 2022, remembers his mother as selfless, intelligent, and joyful. Throughout her illness and recent lengthy hospital stay, she maintained her optimism and caring for others. She was as gracious as she was courageous, continuing to wear a smile and offer motherly advice to her son as she faced her own health challenges. In better times, she doted on pets Maggie, a yellow Labrador Retriever, and “street cat” Kiki. Catie is also survived by brother-in-law, Stephen (Deborah) Paul, and their two sons, Gabriel and Jonathan, and families.

Catie spent many hours reading non-fiction books, always in a quest for knowledge. Countless books were moved out of the Paul household when storage became scarce. She also busied herself with TV documentaries and series, puzzles, and online games, as well as spending precious time with family. A student at Ladywood School and graduate of Shortridge High School, Catie attended IUPUI and spent her professional years as a bookkeeper at Marsh Supermarkets.

Memorial contributions can be made to animal shelters: IndyHumane and Best Friends Animal Society . Private arrangements will be followed by a celebration of life in coming months.
