Wayne Richard “Doc” Dougherty, of Zionsville, Indiana, passed away on August 21, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on August 25, 1947, in Somerset, Pennsylvania.
Known to many as “Doc,” Wayne will be remembered with respect for the life he lived and the steady path he followed through work, service, and friendship. He was a high school graduate who went on to build his career as a journeyman machinist, a trade that reflects skill, dedication, and pride in honest work. He most recently worked for Stanadyne. Doc also served in the United States Army, an important part of his life that stands as a mark of his commitment and service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy Dougherty; niece, Valerie Janke; and best friend, Richard "Boo" Robins. Wayne is survived by his sister, Diane Spero; brother, Sean Dougherty; niece, Lisa Spero Pytel; and great-niece, Samantha Caiafa; and dear friends, Lori, Dana, Joel, and Daniel Robins, whose presence in his life will remain a lasting and meaningful part of his memory.
A viewing will be held at 1 PM Eastern Time, Friday, August 28th at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 N Michigan Rd, Carmel, IN 46077. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
Wayne will be remembered with honor by those who knew him and by all who pause to reflect on a life of work, service, and enduring human connection.
