Walter James Mercer Jr., born on April 8, 1954, in Ozark, Alabama, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, in Cicero, Indiana. He lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a deep commitment to his craft.

Walter was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served his country with honor. Following his military service, he pursued a career in tool and die precision machining, a testament to his exceptional skills and work ethic. His professional journey exemplified his commitment to excellence, and he earned the respect of many colleagues and clients throughout his career.

He graduated from Lawrence Central High School, where he laid the groundwork for his future endeavors. Walter's education and early experiences helped shape the man he would become—a devoted father and an influential figure in the lives of his family.

Walter is survived by his three loving sons, Joseph "Kyle," Daniel Arron, and Joshua Isaac Mercer. He also leaves behind stepchildren Daniel Mark Nealy, Jana Lynn Cain, and Kathryn Leslie Sears, who were cherished members of his extended family. He is also survived by his beloved twin grandchildren, Logan and Jackson Mercer, who brought him immense joy. His bond with his siblings, sister Vicki (Chuck) Mack and brother Brian (Inna) Lamar, highlighted his value for family connections and lifelong relationships.

Walter was preceded in death by his father, Walter Mercer Sr., and his mother, Alta Berterand, both of whom instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity. The loss of his son, Walter James Mercer III, stepson, Matthew Sears; and siblings, Beth Jenson and John Mercer were profound sorrows in his life, yet he carried their memories with him always.

Known for his gentle spirit and unwavering support, Walter's legacy continues through the lives he touched. His passing leaves a void that will be keenly felt by family and friends alike, but his spirit and contributions will not be forgotten.
