Troy Michael Sockel

Troy Michael Sockel passed away on October 7, 2026, at the age of 56. He was born in Springfield, Illinois, and moved to Indianapolis at 19. He received a degree from IT&T Community College. After a few years in the hospitality industry, he started working at ATT. He proved to be an outstanding technician and earned several advanced technical certifications. Troy was recognized as an expert in fiber optics for his installation and repair skills.

Troy had a dry sense of humor and a love of family. He was an excellent cook, especially grilling and smoking various meats. He was an avid Colts fan, having had season tickets for many years. He was also a lifelong Illini enthusiast. He looked forward to his annual fishing trip to the Great Lakes with friends, where he treated everyone to delicious walleye fillets.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ronald, and his identical twin, Todd. Troy is survived by his wife, Susan Capello Sockel, his mother, Joanie Meyer, and her husband, Jerry Meyer.

A private funeral will be held in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois.
