Theodore “Ted” Lee Heiby, a lifelong Hoosier, passed away on July 26, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family.

Ted was born on February 6, 1949, to David Frederick Heiby and Mary Kathryn Whitacre Heiby. A gifted student, he graduated with honors from Portland High School and received a full scholarship to Rose-Hulman University. He later graduated from BYU in 1975.

On February 14, 1973, Ted married Catherine Brown Heiby, his best friend and the love of his life. Together, they raised their children, welcomed grandchildren, and built a life rooted in the principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ted served as a high priest.

Catherine fondly remembers Ted as a jack-of-all-trades. He especially loved mowing lawns and served his neighborhood and community by doing so free of charge. His family recalls, with affection, that his generosity was not always appreciated by those he served.

Ted is survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine Elizabeth Brown Heiby; his son, Jared (Amy) Heiby; his daughter, Elizabeth Dove; five grandchildren, Cassandra & Alessandra Boteler, Tristan Heiby-Boteler, Anastasia Dove, and Ethan James Heiby; his brother, Frederick (Judy) Heiby; and his sisters, Gayle Pedczerwinski and Sara Rhodehamel, many nephews and nieces, as well as many cousins.

Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
