Susan Jan (Spraker) Hannum

Susan Jan Hannum passed away Tuesday morning, October 19th at 6:45 am at Ascension St. Vincent Kokomo. She was born Susan Jan Spraker on September 22, 1956, to F. LaMar and Mary (White) Spraker. On October 27, 1979, she married David Hannum at Shiloh United Methodist Church.

A lifelong Kokomo resident, Susan was a proud graduate of Northwestern High School. During her senior year, she began working at the Credit Bureau of Kokomo where she spent 19 years until it closed. After a brief period at Rochester-Midland she was employed at Eastern Howard School Corporation for 19 years.

Susan enjoyed gardening. She was a collector of baskets, something that brought her joy. For 18 years Susan was a member of the Hoosier Lighthousing Club and volunteered at the Old Michigan City Lighthouse helping to maintain the grounds and building.

A lifelong member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Susan enjoyed working with several other ladies on prayer quilts for members. After her stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis she was presented one that she took with her whenever she was able to attend services.

Susan is survived by her husband, David; her daughter, Heather (Mohamed Soliman) Hannum; grandchildren, Zahara, Adam and Noah Soliman; sisters, Verna (Philip Keith) Rush and Anna Jean (Jim) Kuhns; brothers, Edward Spraker and David (Clarinda) Spraker; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family would like to thank Compassus for Susan’s hospice care as well as all the nurses and other staff on 4 North at Ascension St Vincent Kokomo.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 30th at 3:00 pm at Shiloh UMC, 5741 W 100 N, Kokomo, IN 46901, with visitation from 1:00 pm until the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh UMC, 5741 W 100 N, Kokomo, IN 46901 or, Kokomo Community Cats, PO Box 85 Kokomo IN 46903.
