Sarwan Kumar Khanna, 90, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023. Dr. Khanna is survived by his beautiful wife, Nirmal Khanna; three lovely, accomplished daughters, Madhu Stemmermann (Andrew Stemmermann), Meena Khanna, Dr. Bindu Khanna; two loving grandchildren, Savanna Stemmermann and Krish Khanna; sister, Nirmal Handa and brother, Ashok Khanna; brother- and sister-in-law, Subhash and Inder (Kuki) Khanna; and other loving members of the Khanna and Nanda Family.
Born in Kasoor, India to the late Dr. Hansraj and Prakash Wati Khanna, Kumar lived in Jalandhar, India for approximately 25 years, before moving to England. He completed his studies in the field of Materials Science and Engineering and obtained his PhD from the Bedford School. He began his career at Associated Electrical Industries, a leading electrical manufacturing and trading companies in the UK. He moved to Canada to take on another position as a Materials Scientist at Gulf Oil. He then moved to Indiana, where he worked at RCA Records and later joined Bell Laboratories as a Research Scientist. He then spent most of his career as a committed and Distinguished Fellow Research Scientist at AT&T.
After retiring from AT&T, Kumar, with his expertise and drive to excel even further, he and a close colleague decided to pursue their own business focused on electronic conductive adhesives, which was leveraged for many electronic applications and marketed in the US and overseas. His daughter, Madhu, and son-in-law, Andrew, have continued his legacy by taking their father’s/father-in-law’s technologies to the next level, to scale and deploy across broader applications and use cases, at SunRay Scientific.
Dr. Khanna will always be remembered for his tremendous wisdom and intelligence, endless energy, charisma, and love and generosity to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed the company of others and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
Friends and Family will be gathering to celebrate Kumar's life on Thursday, November 30th from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm (ET) at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Rd, Zionsville, IN. 46077. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Kumar Khanna may be made to the Visually Impaired Preschool Services, Indiana .
