Ruth N. Lollar

June 17, 1929 — September 13, 2025

After a long decline, Ruth Lollar passed away on September 13, 2025. She passed peacefully in our arms. Ruth was 96.

Ruth was born in the rich valleys of southwestern Kentucky near the town of Albany. She was born directly into the Great Depression where she learned to love God, family, and country. She became an excellent seamstress and cook. She also learned farming, preserving, teaching in a one room school house, and how to protect her family and those less fortunate from starvation.

The Depression finally ended, and World War II was over. Ruth married Fred Lollar and they joined the great migration north to the cities. They came to Indianapolis where they stayed and cared for their own small family with serious dedication born of their pasts.

In 2013, she lost her husband of nearly 60 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John Fowler and Bina Bell Norris, and by her four sisters Creola Blevins, Laura Mae Wooten, Dalene Dooley and Sylvia Chappell.

She is survived by her children Tina and Russ Sherlock; her grandchildren Jared and Olivia Sherlock, and Corben and Nicole Sherlock; her great granddaughter Marlo Sherlock; and three generations of nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by the other children of her heart: Alicia Taylor (Director of Nursing) and the entire staff of nurses, CNAs, nutritionists, dining room staff (especially George and his cookies), and facilities personnel at Marquette Senior Living. They always treated her so well, and with love and affection. Her family will always treasure the beautiful tender care they all received over the years, and especially during the final days leading up to her death.

There will be an immediate-family memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family is humbly requesting any donations in her memory to either Marquette Senior Living, https://www.marquetteseniorliving.org/foundation/ 8140 Township Line Road, Indianapolis, IN, 46260, or to the Family Justice Resource Center, www.famjustice.org 6035 N Knoxville Ave., Suite #102A, Peoria, IL 61614
