Robert Michael O'Neil, born on May 22, 1946 in Beech Grove, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025 in Carmel, Indiana. He led a life filled with dedication and service, both to his family and his profession.

Mike began his professional journey at Western Electric, where he devoted 20 years of loyal service. Afterward, he transitioned to Eli Lilly, where he worked as an environmental technician for 25 years. 

A veteran of the United States Army, Mike honorably served during the Vietnam War, a testament to his bravery and dedication to his country. His service left an indelible mark on him, reinforcing his values of integrity and responsibility throughout his life.  He appreciated those who valued America’s veterans, including those who recognized him with an Honor Flight in 2022. 

Since retirement, Mike looked forward to reminiscing at his “Glory Days” lunches with his classmates from Scecina Memorial High School.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Nan O'Neil, his Irish twin sister, Sister Mary J. “Jody” O’Neil, S.P., and his cherished daughters, Patricia “Tricia” Ellen O'Neil and Colleen Marie (Matt) Gibson. Mike took great joy in his role as a grandfather to Ethan Nathanael and Cohen Michael O'Neil-Thompson. He is also remembered fondly by his stepchildren, Jennifer (Gary) Van Keppel, Robert (Julie) D'Orso, Megan (Tony) Saylor, and Maureen (Nick) Weber and their children.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Richard C. and Gladys O. O'Neil, and his brother, Patrick “Denny” O'Neil and sister-in-law, Teri O’Neil. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.

Friends may visit at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Rd, Carmel, IN 46033 on Friday, June 6th at 9 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AMBurial will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mike’s memory to Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter #295, P.O. Box 269279, Lawrence, IN 46226 or The Piarist School, P.O. Box 369, Hager Hill, KY 41222.
