IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Morris
Hobbs
December 11, 1938 – February 3, 2026
Rev. Dr. Richard M. Hobbs passed away on February 3, 2026.
Richard was witty, kind, and gentle; he carried himself with a quiet steadiness that made people feel at ease. A man of service by nature, he lived his faith through ministry in the Methodist tradition in a way that was uniquely his own. Richard took many medical mission trips to Ecuador with Christ Church Cathedral Indianapolis and volunteered years of service at the Storehouse Food Pantry. After retiring, he also served for 12 years as a volunteer chaplain at Indianapolis International Airport.
Richard graduated from Plainfield High School, DePauw University, and Indiana University School of Social Work. He later went on to graduate from Christian Theological Seminary and was subsequently ordained a Methodist minister.
He found joy in the faithful, everyday things. Richard was an avid reader, a devoted crossword solver, and a lifelong learner. Music stayed close to him as well. He loved playing the piano and, even in later years, continued taking lessons.
Richard enjoyed following sports and looked forward to the seasons of the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Pacers. He also loved being on the water fishing, especially alongside his best friend, Dale.
Richard shared 63 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Hudner. He is survived by Hudner and his daughter, Melanie. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregg, who passed away in 2011.
A service will be held at Saint Francis in the Fields, Zionsville, Indiana, on March 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, family and friends are invited to stay for a catered reception and time together.
In lieu of flowers, etc., memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to The Storehouse Food Pantry (storehousepantry.org). Donations may also be mailed to:
