Reid Litwack

Our precious Reid Litwack died on August 4, 2026. He was born on February 26, 1961, to Louise and Jerry Litwack. He spent his early childhood years in Shelbyville, IN before the family moved to Indianapolis in 1973. He graduated from North Central High School and, with the exception of his time at Brown University and Case Western, spent the rest of his life in Indianapolis.

Reid was a devoted supporter of the people in his life and communities. All will remember phone calls and voicemails that start, “Hey, it’s Reid. Just checking in.” Nothing made him happier than answering a phone call from a friend, and he made lifelong connections at every stage of life. His relationships were made possible by his disarming goofiness and unwavering loyalty.

Compassion and generosity came naturally to Reid. He wanted to be the best version of himself and to share his resources and know-how with his communities. When Reid saw systemic unfairness or someone in need, he was the first to offer support. In that spirit, Reid was a passionate advocate for education reform, serving as the founding board chair of KIPP Indy and championing students throughout his life. He was also a dedicated contributor to Planned Parenthood, among other causes.

Reid was playful. He was always ready for a game, and if one wasn’t available, he was quick to invent one. Over the last five years, Reid dove headfirst into tournament poker. His new friends delighted in his warmth, goofiness, and reckless bets.

Family was so important to him. Reid was deeply committed to carrying on his parents’ legacy of organizing a large family Thanksgiving, co-hosting with his siblings since 1995. He loved knowing that relatives from different states, generations, and branches of the family tree could count each other as friends.

Reid was in the steel business for nearly 40 years, spending most of his career at Steel House. He was a dynamic entrepreneur who relished taking risks and solving problems. If you were in a car with him, he got a kick out of being able to point at a building and say, “We put steel in that.” But he took the greatest joy in helping employees, colleagues, and friends navigate their own careers and businesses.

More than anything, Reid was the most loving, fun, adventurous, and adoring husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Liz; his kids, Lucy, Abe, and Ben; his brother Barry (Alla); his sister, Alix; and his relatives and friends, near and far, who will carry his love and dedication to them in their hearts forever.

A memorial service, which will be available by livestream for those unable to attend in person,  will be held on August 23, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 N. Michigan Road,  followed by a reception at Goldman Union Camp Institute, 9349 Moore Road, where Reid spent his childhood summers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to KIPP Indy, Planned Parenthood, Goldman Union Camp Institute, or Second Helpings. And that Reid’s friends play a game with a loved one and remember Reid.
