Rabbi Stanley David Halpern died peacefully on April 27, 2024, at 76.  Rabbi Halpern was born in Spokane, Washington, on March 1, 1948, to the late Charles and Rae Halpern.  He was a graduate of the University of Washington and ordained into the rabbinate at Yeshevat Rambam in Ber Sheva, Israel.  Stanley had a long career serving and educating the Jewish community.  He first served as the Executive Director of the Bureau of Jewish Education in Sacramento, then moved to serve as Rabbi at Temple Israel in Gary, Indiana, and then came to Carmel, Indiana, where he served as the Rabbi at Beth-Shalom.  Throughout his career, Rabbi Halpern made time to volunteer.  For over 25 years, he gave his time at the Hospice of the Calumet area.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Nahmias Halpern; daughter, Sasha Halpern; stepson, Nathan (Catherine) Bernard; grandsons, David and Robbie Bernard; and extended family. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Marvin.
The funeral services to honor Rabbi Halpern's life will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral Home, 11411 N. Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077. Burial will follow in Etz Chaim Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to be made to The Wolf Park, https://wolfpark.org/ where Rabbi Halpern proposed to his beloved wife, or to the Etz Chaim Cemetery Fund,https://etzchaimindy.org/. Alternatively, contributions can be made to the Hospice of Calumet Area,https://www.hospicecalumet.org/ in recognition of Rabbi Halpern's longstanding commitment to their cause.
