Peggy (Young) Mitchell lived a life full of adventure, loyalty, and compassion—never once bothering to pretend to be anyone other than herself (and good luck to anyone who tried to change her). Born in a log cabin in Kentucky on June 5, 1947, she proudly carried her Kentucky grit and stubborn spirit, right up until she decided August 10, 2025 was the perfect time to make her graceful exit.
She shared a 52-year love story with her husband, Jim—proof that miracles happen—weathering life’s firsts together, including Peggy earning her nursing degree while Jim was off serving in Desert Storm. For 19 years, she worked as a hospice nurse, bringing comfort to others while keeping her quick wit and humor sharp enough to keep everyone on their toes.
In true Peggy fashion, she made it clear she did not want a traditional funeral. Instead, her family will host a celebration of life at a later date, honoring her passion for life, her unshakable devotion to family, including her fierce love for her granddaughters: Gabi, Olivia, and Aubrie, who called her Mimi.
A country girl at heart, Peggy could be found tending her garden, especially her beloved hydrangeas, which—like her—were beautiful, vibrant, and just a bit unpredictable. She will be truly missed as a mother, grandmother, a sister, a sister-in-law, and a true legend.
