Paul Edward Ayers

January 4, 1950 — June 25, 2021

Paul Edward Ayers, 71, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Lymphoma and associated illnesses.  He was born on January 4, 1950 in Norfolk, VA and was raised in Canton, MS before moving to Meridian, MS where he graduated from Meridian High School.

Paul was a Vietnam War veteran.  He was a SSgt. and crew chief, serving primarily in Torrejon Air Force Base, Madrid Spain.  He studied Psychological Sciences at UMiami as well.

Paul spent his career in the technology industry working for several companies before founding Business Infrastructure Group, now known as BIGI.  He held various positions throughout his career, which included Telephone Electronics Instructor at ITT, voice and data cabling, telephone system installation, project management, operations manager and communications infrastructure consultant.  He was known to others in his industry as one who knew “a lot of things about a lot of things”.  He was also known by some to be “the best boss”.

Paul retired at a young age in 2005 due to Parkinson’s Disease effects, and though he enjoyed time at home, golfing and fishing, it was not enough.  He was a visionary, so with two other co-founders formed a support group, Young Parkinsons of Indiana (YPI).  He was known to host golf outings, “Shake Rattle & Hole”, in which proceeds went to national Parkinsons.  He attended the Michael J. Fox Foundation Unity Walk during this time, and had the pleasure of meeting Michael J. Fox in New York City.  Paul, along with the other two co-founders created the foundation for the development of Rock Steady Boxing.  He spent time as both a volunteer and boxer there, working out and enjoying time with others who have or had Parkinsons Disease.

Paul was a soccer coach for several years at Glendale Soccer Association, then at Eastwood Middle School for two years.  He was a volunteer for several years at  Indiana Sports Corporation where he enjoyed helping at Corporate Challenge, NCAA championships, 500 Festival, Super Bowl championship game and events, and much more.  He also took pride in helping at church with lawn and garden care and Vacation Bible School.

Paul had several hobbies which included fishing, woodworking, cooking, music, and watching his kids/grandkids games.  He was always up to date on basketball, football, soccer and any story related to the Boston Red Sox.

Paul is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jennifer; his two sons, Chris and Elliott (Aly); and his daughter, Sarah all of Indianapolis.  He is also survived by his four loving grandchildren, Mitchell, Alyssa, Mason and Natalie.
