Beloved Father and PawPaw, Patrick R. Eckert went to his Heavenly home on Friday, February 9, 2024. He is fondly remembered for his compassionate heart, jovial spirit, and generous nature.
Patrick was born on October 11, 1956, in La Porte, Indiana to Raymond and Mary (Fullan) Eckert, the youngest of 4 siblings. He grew up and lived in San Pierre, Indiana for much of his life. His work in Information Technology took him from coast to coast, and he had stints residing in Texas a few times along the way. He loved hiking rocky beaches in California with dear friends, and playing golf before his health deteriorated. His last several years were spent in Indianapolis where he was near his children and most significantly to him, his granddaughter.
He loved his large Irish family and spending time with the many aunts, uncles, and cousins; he looked forward to family reunions yearly. He had many hobbies throughout his life, including scuba diving, golfing, riding his motorcycle, sailing, hiking, and listening to music. He was involved in the San Pierre Volunteer Fire Department and a member of St Luke United Church from the time of his childhood. After his retirement, he devoted much time to serving on the board of Family Promise of Greater Indianapolis. His role was pivotal to their annual fundraising effort and passionate about their mission to help unhoused persons in Indianapolis.
Often described as a workaholic, Patrick was addicted to providing for his family. He enjoyed his work and loved technology. Having been the go-to help desk for the family, they are now unsure who will fix all of their computer issues going forward.
Patrick is survived by his two children, Julie N. Eckert (Vilfred H Tagua) and Phillip R. Eckert (Ryan Roesler); their mother, Connie S. (Smith) Eckert; his favorite granddaughter, Madeline N. Tagua Horne; his brother, John W. (Saundra) Eckert; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and family members he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Owen M Eckert; sister, Alice A Stalbaum and her husband, Delos Stalbaum.
Services will be on March 2, 2024, at 12:00 PM CST at St. Luke United Church in San Pierre, Indiana. There will be a memorial service followed by a graveside interment of ashes and a meal.
