Miriam Isenberg Morgan — or Muma to her grandkids — passed away on April 30, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born in Indianapolis to Thelma and David Isenberg, Miriam attended Shortridge High School, where, at 15, she met a boy named Richard Morgan, who would become the love of her life. Together, they raised four children, built a beautiful life, traveled the world, and laughed often.

She gave so much to her community and was passionate about the power of education. She served on the Washington Township school board and was a longtime member of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck. There, she taught in the early childhood program and helped shape so many kids’ first years. Miriam was an avid reader, a trait passed down to her family like so many heirlooms.

It’s hard to capture her essence in only a few paragraphs. The sharpness of her mind. She remembered every street name and detail from a story she had heard once, twenty years ago. The devotion for her Indiana sports teams and all things college basketball. Or the loving way she tended her garden and fed the birds. Those special friendships were maintained over lively games of canasta.

Most of all, she was Muma. Her grandkids were her great pride. Their interests were her interests. And of course, nobody ever left her house hungry. There was always a plate of scrambled eggs ready or a loaf of banana bread cooling on the counter. As her grandkids started their own families, her love and pride only expanded. Looking back, she became Muma at 44 and spent more time in that role than not. She often called it the best job she’d ever had.

Miriam was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Morgan; her mother-in-law, Marion Etta Morgan; her parents, Thelma and David Isenberg; and her great-grandson, Eli Richard Oppman. She is survived by her four children, Debbie (Scott Law), Barbie (Scott Gray), Scott (Susan), and Linda; her 13 grandchildren; and her 14 great-grandchildren — every one of whom carried a piece of her heart.

Funeral services will be on May 1, 2026, at 10:00 am in Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral Home, 11411 N. Michigan Road, 46077.  A private burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to jfgi.givingfuel.com/eli-oppman.
