Melva J. (Sussman) Hamer

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and community volunteer passed away on December 13, 2021, at the at the age of 97.

Melva was a longtime member of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, its Sisterhood, a lifetime member of the Indiana University Alumni Association and past president of the Indianapolis Chapter of Children’s Asthma Research Institute and Hospital.  She was an excellent pianist and loved to travel.  Melva enjoyed Bridge and Mahjong and Blackjack.  She traveled to Portland, Oregon to see the CRSO Swing band.  However, her greatest joy came from spending time with family and attending the various activities of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Vicki) Hamer, Sheryl (Ray) Robert and Dr. Scott (Carol) Hamer; 5 grandchildren, Danny Robert, Deb (Deep Banerji) Robert, Sheryl Lynn (Eric) Miller, Stephanie Hamer and Dr. Ethan (Emily) Hamer; great grandchildren, Elias Scott, Henry Charles and Adeline; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. Melva was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles Hamer, in 2006.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 1:00pm in Indianapolis Hebrew Cemetery North.
