Maxine Dehn passed away a month after her hundredth birthday in Carmel, IN. She was born in Chicago on February 29, 1924, to Jack and Minnie Brenner. She had two older sisters, Joan and Margaret "Peg". At Illinois College, she met George Henry Dehn; they married in 1945, moved to Effingham in the late 1940s, and lived to celebrate their fifty-fifth anniversary. They had four children: Michael, Martha (Missy), Marc, and Matthew.
A homemaker, Maxine was a fabulous cook, specializing in French and Cajun dishes, and she played a mean hand of bridge. Like her mother, Maxine was an impressive seamstress and an artist with crewel work and embroidery. She was active in book groups and in the renovation of the old courthouse that became the Effingham County Cultural Center and Museum.
In addition to her surviving children, Missy and Matthew, Maxine leaves four nephews and their spouses: William and Mary Ellen Woertz, James and Sharon Woertz, Thomas and Kay Woertz, and Charles and Cathy Woertz.
Her friends and family will miss her optimism, sense of humor, and grace.
