Martha Jean Ford,
76 passed away peacefully at Hooverwood Nursing Home on November 6, 2011. She was born on December 21, 1934 in Gamaliel, KY to the late Maude Pipkin and Earl Comer. Martha relocated to Indianapolis in 1950 where she attended Shortridge High School, graduating in 1953. She was the past president of the Indianapolis chapter of the Lincoln Alumni. Martha studied Ballroom dance for many years, and loved to travel. She retired from Aetna after 31 years as an Administration Manager in the Commercial Insurance division.
Martha is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Lee G. Ford; stepsons, Carlton "Pete" G. Ford and Keith Craig; brothers, Alvin L. Pipkin and Richard O. Andrews; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, Oliver "Pete" Pipkin and Charles L. Pipkin; and nephew, Gregory L. Pipkin.
Martha was known as the matriarch of the family and will be greatly missed. In pursuant of her wishes, in lieu of a funeral service there will be a grand memorial celebration of her life to be announced at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Manges and the St. Vincent Cancer Center staff, as well as the Hooverwood Nursing Home staff for their excellent care.
