Margaret "Peggy" Capaldo

December 3, 1931 — January 15, 2026

With great sorrow, we announce that Margaret “Peggy” Capaldo, recently of Carmel, IN, passed away on January 15, 2026, at age 94.

Peggy was born on December 3, 1931, in Pittsburgh, PA. She is predeceased by her parents, Victor and Rose Wassel; her sister, Frances Jacox; and her husband of 46 years, Frank Capaldo. Frank and Peggy were married in 1953 and raised their family in Bedford, OH, before retiring to Vero Beach, FL.

After many years as an executive secretary and program assistant, most notably with Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA, and Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, OH, Peggy turned her attention to her passion for writing children’s stories. Her stories cover a wide range of creative content and address important issues like bullying. Peggy loved reading, the beach, and peanut butter. A lifelong learner, Peggy spent hours researching a variety of topics, from art to nature to world cultures, which she would share with others and include in her children’s stories. She led art walks, book clubs, and rosary mornings at her former assisted living residence in Zionsville, IN.

Peggy is survived by her dear brother William Wassel (Rosemary); her loving children Frank Capaldo (Vickie), Steven Capaldo (Sheri), Victoria Dusek (Timothy), and Susan Benedict (Paul); grandchildren Cassandra Clark (Evan), Christopher Capaldo (Sinclair), Heather Capaldo, Stephanie Masters (Adam), Holly Fehr (Cole), Lilly Dusek, Violet Dusek, Elizabeth Benedict, and Rebecca Benedict; and seven great grandchildren.

A private service will be held at a future date. If you wish to honor Peggy’s memory with a donation, the family requests that donations are made in Peggy’s name to Indiana Talking Book and Braille Library or St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church in Zionsville, IN.
