Madhusudana

January 15, 1990 — November 23, 2025

Westfield

Earlier this year, Ashwini and Madhu were simply a happy couple raising their toddler. Everything changed in April when Madhu was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer - squamous cell carcinoma, with a tumor on the underside of his tongue. In May 2025, the tumor and a few lymph nodes (one malignant) were successfully removed at Community Health network -North, Indianapolis.

Following medical advice, he began radiation therapy seven weeks after surgery. Almost immediately, sever systemic reactions set in - extreme vomiting and dehydration - yet he pushed through eight of the 30 recommended sessions. Unfortunately, follow-up scans revealed a large tumor still present in his tongue and several malignant lymph nodes.

In August 2025, he underwent another major surgery: removal of the right half of his tongue, multiple lymph nodes, and a flap reconstruction. Just three weeks later, a CT scan confirmed our worst fear - the cancer had spread to his lungs, advancing to metastatic stage 4.

Determined to fight, he started chemotherapy combined with immunotherapy in September 2025. After two cycles, there was no significant progress; the tumor continued to grow. In October, he received a "quad shot" of radiation to slow the disease's aggression. It helped briefly but came with harsh side effects.

We then enrolled him in a clinical trial at IU, Indianapolis, hoping for a breakthrough. Sadly, he was randomized into the standard care group and received one dose in November. Soon after, he was hospitalized for sever chest congestion and breathlessness-the third emergency in just two weeks.

After enduring 12 hospitalizations, 2 major surgeries, 3 minor ones, 12 radiation session, 3 cycles of chemotherapy, and innumerable ER visits, his condition became critical. Through every setback, Madhu has fought with extraordinary courage and an unyielding will to live. Madhu took his last breath on 23rd Nov 2025 late evening. He went away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

His humor truly uplifted every situation and his resilience is truly inspiring. Atharva and Ashwini will continue to carry that spirit and hope to live a fulfilling zealous life spreading the unconditional love he shared for everyone in his life.
