Lorraine “Lanie” Ball - wife, mom, podcast host, teacher, award winning photographer, sci-fi geek, cyclist, world traveler and slightly crazy cat lady passed away surrounded by her loving family on September 16.
Lorraine was a true New Yorker – born in Brooklyn (“the 3rd largest city in America” she would tell you) to the late Saul and Florence Wolf, she grew up in Queens. After earning a Bachelors in Education from Queens College, she moved to Israel to volunteer with Sherut La’am as an elementary school teacher. It was there that she met her husband Andy. And that is when the adventure began. After traveling through Europe without reservations or a plan, they came back to the states to get married. Their first home was in Dallas where her pride and joy, Michelle and Harrison, were born. While in Dallas she worked for an oil field supply house where she honed a Texas accent, earned an MBA at the University of Texas at Dallas and then was employed by Lennox Corp. to market Air Conditioners. A few years later, Carrier Corporation came calling and they relocated to, and made their forever home, in Indianapolis. At Carrier, Lorraine not only was a marketing director, but also oversaw their Bryant race program. She got hit by racing fever and went to numerous races around the country and multiple Indy 500’s. When she left Carrier she had a short stint as VP of Marketing for Conseco but then the Entrepreneur bug hit. For 20 years she owned Roundpeg, a marketing company for small businesses. One of her passions was mentoring numerous young people – the kids as she would call them - fresh out of school. In 2021, Lorraine sold Roundpeg and “retired”. She filled her days with creating podcasts, consulting, photography, volunteering and traveling. Over the years, she and Andy visited 21 countries. Her most recent accomplishments were biking in Spain and Portugal in 2025 and riding 139 miles in Italy this year. Lorraine served on numerous non-profit boards - President of the local chapter of National Organization of Women in Business, President of Rainmakers, Vice-Chair of the Indy Fringe Theatre Festival Board of Directors, Vice-President of the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation Board of Directors and on the North Willow Farms HOA. She also helped with marketing for Women for Change helping it to grow its important mission. Lorraine was honored to be included in the 2008 class of the IBJ Women of Influence.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Andrew Ball; her daughter, Michelle Ball; her brothers, Jason Wolf and Jonathan Wolf (Karen); her brothers-in-law, Daniel Ball (Riva Mirvis) and Michael Ball (Karen); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Harrison Ball.
Funeral services will be held at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, 6501 N. Meridian Street, on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 10:00 am. with visitation starting at 9:30.
