Lisa Hess Malin, 66, of Noblesville passed away on March 31st after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She spent the last year and her final days surrounded by her family. Lisa was born on November 11th to Raymond Carlton and Mary Jo (Brown) Hess in Plymouth, Indiana, along with her best friend and twin sister Barb Holly.
Lisa earned her teaching degree from Purdue University and taught Kindergarten and First Grade at South Haven Christian School in Valparaiso, Indiana, before staying home with her two young children. She cared for countless children in her home over the years. As the children aged, she went back to full time work as a Librarian at Lake Station-New Chicago Public Library and Homan Elementary School in Schererville, Indiana.
Lisa was a founding member of the First Christian Church of Dyer, Indiana, where she met her husband in 1979. He had just relocated from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and she handed him a hymnal on his first Sunday attending. They were married a year later and remained faithful for 41 years. Brad and Lisa also helped to plant a church during their time living in Canton, Michigan. She supported many overseas and local missionaries financially and through her prayers. She also served as a volunteer at the Calumet Area Warming Shelter in Hammond, Indiana, for years with dear friends from the church. She will be remembered for her generosity and her love for others.
Lisa, and the love of her life, Brad, enjoyed traveling all over the world. Some of the highlights included an extended trip to China and a 49-day cruise from London to Singapore. Other travels outside the contiguous United States included trips to the Mexican Riviera, Panama Canal, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, the Mid East and Far East Asia. They retired and settled in Noblesville to be close to their grandchildren. Unless she was cruising, she never missed one of the grandkids sports, academics, or 4H events. Her greatest joy was her family! She always celebrated every holiday and birthday with a themed party and took thousands of pictures of those she loved the best.
Lisa is survived by her devoted husband and caregiver, Bradford Malin; her favorite daughter Jennifer (Malin) Kauffman; her son Joshua Malin; Son-in-love, Travis Kauffman and daughter-in-love Katherine (Helmer) Malin. She will be forever remembered by her adored grandchildren Adrianna, Alayna and Gabriella Kauffman and Justin and Sydney Malin. Her legacy will live on in their love for reading which she firmly established within them from the day they were born.
She is also survived by her mother, Mary Hess, and her siblings Barb Holly, Gail Smith, and Kent (Michelle) Hess who were more than just siblings. They were lifelong friends! Her immediate family included her nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own children; and the newest generation, her great-nieces and great-nephews.
Lisa was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Hess. She will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
A Celebration of Lisa's life will be held at White River Christian Church in Noblesville on Saturday, April 3rd at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be mailed to Arcadia Christian Church, P.O. Box 544, Arcadia, IN 46030. Please make checks payable to Arcadia Christian Church with "Lisa Malin" in the Memo.
Her family will be planting an evergreen tree in memory of Lisa at their new lake house on Morse Reservoir.
