Leah-Dee Kahn

Leah-Dee “Deedle” Kahn, was born on March 28, 1924, in Lorain, Ohio, to Morris and Annette Asch. She met husband Howard on a blind date in Indianapolis sparking a nearly 60-year marriage characterized by profound love and family togetherness. Her Ohio family and her Indiana family meant everything to her.

Deedle was a dedicated member of the Jewish community and an especially active supporter of Hadassah, following in her mother's footsteps. She was a dynamic leader and a focused and effective fundraiser. Deedle was a Hadassah local chapter president, a regional president, served on the Hadassah National Board, and was a long-time member of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck. She was also a board member of the National Conference of Christians and Jews.

Deedle had a lifelong love for the violin and studied music at Northwestern University. She played violin and viola in the Women's Symphony in Cleveland and in many chamber groups. She shared her skills as an instrumental music teacher in the Cleveland and Akron public schools and at the Cleveland Settlement. She served as vice president of the women’s committee of the Indianapolis State Symphony Society and initiated the Art to Music contest (later, the Calendar Project) in the Indianapolis public schools. Deedle was also chairman of the Aspen Music Scholarship Fund.

Beyond her professional and volunteer work, Deedle loved to travel and play bridge, and was an ACBL Life Master. Above all, she loved her family, including her three wonderful children, Kate DeBlander (Dave), Janis Kahn (Jeff Greve), and Raymond Kahn (Motoko); four grandchildren, Kali Brigham (Josh), Ben Greve (Sarah Levinson), Alex Greve (Winnie Kuo), Remi Kahn; and five great grandchildren, Braeden Brigham, Madelyn Brigham, Miles Greve, Emily Greve, and Parker Greve.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral Home, 11411 N. Michigan Road.  For those unable to attend in person, the funeral will be livestreamed. Please click here to view.

Burial to follow in Beth-El Zedeck South Cemetery.  Shiva will be oberserved on Wednesday at the Mystic Bay Clubhouse: 7727 Mystic Bay Court Indianapolis, IN 46240 beginning at 4:30 with a minyan at 5:30PM.
