Kathryn “Kate” Capehart Lowry peacefully passed away on February 20th, surrounded by her family. Kate was born in Indianapolis, grew up in Zionsville, and graduated from North Central. Kate spent most of her adult life helping build DL Lowry salon with her former husband, David Lowry, and later running a business organizing homes.
Above all else, Kate loved spending time with her family, especially her three kids: Lucas, Ethan, and Ava. She attended every one of their games, threw the most elaborate backyard birthday parties, and always taught them to love “to the moon and back.” Kate loved to love. Whether sharing a McDonald’s Diet Coke, gifting her favorite fashion items, creating fun for the countless kids who called her “Mamma Kate,” or playing cards with her crew at Marquette, Kate lived life to have fun, break the status quo, and bring joy to everyone around her. Kate is survived by her father, Jim Capehart, and her brothers, who she adored, Bruce, Chris, and Matt. Kate’s favorite title other than mom was "Beautiful Aunt Katie” to her nieces and nephews: Sophia, Luna, Zachary, Ashton, Bentley, and Aynsley. Kate is preceded in her death by her mother, Myrna Capehart. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 4:00 pm in the Milner Chapel at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
