Judith Anne Lavender

Born on March 9, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Judy was a lifelong Hoosier, with a bright spirit and a heart that made people feel welcome and loved.  She passed away peacefully on September 11, 2026, at the age of 75.

Judy was a member of the Speedway High School class of 1969, was a member of Sigma Phi Gamma (Phi Gam) sorority, and attended IUPUI where she studied Psychology and English.   

Judy lived a life marked by dedication, steadiness, and service to others. For more than 38 years, she served as Administrative Assistant at the Wishard Hospital Emergency Department, from which she retired after a long and fulfilling career.  

Judy will be remembered with love by her family and friends.  She is survived by her life partner William Alig, her brother, Charles Lavender, her sister-in-law Judy (Smyser) Lavender, her nephews Jason Mantooth and Zachary Lavender, and her nieces Courtney Idol, Kayla Smith, and Kaitlynne Mantooth.  She was preceded in death by her father Lucius Lavender, mother Myrtle Lavender, sister Lucia Mulcahy, and brother John Lavender. 

Judy's faith was an important part of her life.  She was an active and devoted member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where she frequently volunteered and worked in the Parish church office, participated in Bible study groups, and was a proud member of the Rosary Warriors.  She was also known for greeting and welcoming people as they arrived for Mass.  

A private cremation was conducted at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral and Cremation Services, 11411 N. Michigan Road, Zionsville, Indiana.  

Memorial and celebration of life services will be conducted at St. Jude Catholic Church, 5353 McFarland Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, as follows: Visitation at the church on September 25, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.  Funeral service at the church on September 26th, 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mercy Meal.  For further information, you may contact the church directly at 317-786-4371.
