John Francis Hatton, born September 1, 1944, in Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on July 14, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. John’s long and honorable life touched many, leaving a legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering support for his loved ones.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, John is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa Anne Hatton. Together they shared a steadfast partnership, standing by each other through the joys and challenges life brings. His children, Michael A. (Tony) Hatton (with Amy), Timothy W. Hatton (with Heidi), and John C. Hatton (with Beth), mourn the loss of a caring and inspiring father. John’s wisdom, guidance, and humor shaped his family’s lives in innumerable ways, and his memory will remain a source of comfort and strength to them.
He is preceded in death by his father Charles Melvin Hatton, his mother June Arleen (Hullihan) Hatton and his brother, Peter Lee Hatton, whose memory remained dear to him throughout his years.
A lifelong Hoosier, John grew up along the Wabash in Attica, IN. He loved sports and was a 4 year H.S. letterman in 4 sports. He loved all sports and would go on to play golf in college and through the rest of his life, making friends on the links everywhere he went, and was infamous for his short game honed at Harrison Hills in Attica.
John was involved in manufacturing his whole career, starting at Harrison Steel during high school and college and continuing after graduation from Indiana State with Allison Transmission in Indianapolis and Raybestos in Crawfordsville, IN and Stratford, CT. John made friends easily due to his curiosity and ability to make every person feel heard. He turned this talent into a thriving business with Metal Parts and Equipment where he worked as a Sales Representative for 31 years.
John was a man of great faith and despite coming to the Catholic faith late in life, loved his St Alphonsus church family. He loved to Cantor with Anne, sing with the choir and meet with his Monday night Bible Study.
Most importantly, John loved his family and especially his wife of 59 years, Anne. Their partnership was steadfast and a shining example of LOVE for their children, nine grandchildren – Scott, Kyle, Connor, Rachel, Luke, Joshua, Larkan, Padric, and Sean, and three great-grandchildren, Luke, Walter, and Florence with two on the way.
