John Phillip Fisher, born August 16, 1941, in Elwood, IN was sent to his eternal home on May 21, 2024, a son of the late Max W. and Virginia S. Fisher.

After his graduation from Albany High School, John enlisted in the Air Force. His desire was to be stationed overseas and see the world. However, God had different plans. He was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, California, a hub for cutting-edge flight testing and development, particularly in supersonic and high-altitude aircraft. He was then stationed at Lajes Field in the Azores for aircraft diplomatic duties. After completing his service, his height and athletic ability led to his recruitment to play basketball at Porterville Junior College, CA. Upon finishing his associates degree, he returned home to Indiana and enrolled at Ball State University to complete his undergraduate degree in Business Administration. He was recruited by Shell USA as a territory representative which led to him planting roots with his wife and daughters in Bluffton, IN. The fire to become an entrepreneur came to fruition when he became the Owner/Operator of Pearl Oil having stations in Berne and Decatur, IN, and helping create and implement the first convenience stores.

John loved to learn and be challenged. He returned to Ball State to earn a Master of Arts degree. He then sold his business and pursued his PhD in IO Psychology in Chicago. He earned his pilot’s license. He loved to play chess and golf. He loved sports, especially IU Basketball, the Indianapolis Colts, the Indiana Pacers and Wimbledon every July 4th. He also became a huge fan of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved to be with his family and attend all of their events, sports, and school activities.

John and Helen followed their daughters to Indianapolis where he retired twice: Schneider National and the IRS. He finally settled down and enjoyed time with his pets, traveling, and his close-knit family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. But what moved John the most was his faith and relationship with Jesus. Nothing satisfied him more than his personal relationship with God. Psalm 42:1 “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.” He loved studying the Word and sharing his testimony of Jesus’ love. This is what gives his family peace in their mourning to know John has eternal life in heaven.

John is survived by his loving family: wife Helen Fisher, daughters Cindy Luthman (Jeff) and Mandy Osborne (Ryan); grandchildren Maggie Myers (Nathan), Olivia Fisher, Audrey & Sadie Osborne, Courtney Sutter (Josh), and Jeffrey Luthman (Madeline); great-grandchildren Ryder, Hazel, KJ, Carson, and Sailor; and his two precious pups, Heidi and Rocky.

The family is holding a private celebration of life at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral Home, 11411 N. Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077 on Friday evening, May 23rd. In lieu of flowers, he would want you to plant a tree, plant flowers, help a neighbor, help a pet rescue organization, support our vets like Tunnels to Towers. These are all causes that spoke to John.
