John Colby

July 6, 1968 — January 2, 2022

John Colby, 53 years old, passed away on January 2, 2022 ending his life-long journey with Muscular Dystrophy. John was predeceased by his mother, Jane Colby; his father, David Colby; and his brother, Tom. He is survived by his step-mother, Judy Colby; his sister, Joanne; and his nephew, Henry. He was also part of a larger family filled with grandparents, aunts and uncles, and loving cousins. He was surrounded by an extensive network of friends from his church family and was an active member of Church at the Crossing.  John graduated from Pike High School and Ivy Tech in Indianapolis . He worked as an IT professional for Child Advocates for over 20 years.

John will be remembered as a warm hearted spirit who cared deeply about others. He found tremendous strength in his Christian faith and was the first to offer support and encouragement to his friends. He didn’t let his disability or being in a wheelchair stop him from enjoying life. He joined every church outing, charmed people into carrying him onto a boat, even once jet skied (when his sister turned her back). He loved nothing more than a road trip, especially visiting family in Chicago. He could be found reading books with his nephew, Henry, or cruising around the park on a sunny day.  He enjoyed watching Indy car races, going to the State Fair, and sitting by a warm fire.

A Memorial Service will be held at Church of the Crossing on Saturday, March 5th at 12:00pm. Reception to follow after the service.
