Jean Ellen Badger (Paarlberg) April 19, 1932 – August 21, 2026

Jean Ellen Badger (Paarlberg), wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on August 21, 2026, at the age of 94. She was born April 19, 1932, in Harvey, Illinois.

Jean attended Iowa State University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and was named a campus beauty queen. During those years, she met Robert W. Badger at her best friend’s wedding. They later married and shared more than 70 years together.

As an Army wife, Jean and her family lived in many places throughout the world. Wherever they were stationed, she made a home for her family while developing an appreciation for the communities, art and culture around her.

Art remained an important part of Jean’s life. For many years, she served as a docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, where she enjoyed sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors.

Jean is survived by her husband, Robert W. Badger, and their four children: Martha E. Smith (Larry), Robert W. Badger Jr. (Brenda), James F. Badger (Denni), and Christian C. Badger (Andrea).

She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Rebecca Eltz (Ben) and sons Connor and Sebastian (Seby); Nathan Smith (Kristen) and daughters Sierra and Whitney; Andrew Smith (Anne) and children Henry and Margot Jean; Abigail Badger; Jacob Badger (Carolyn); Nicholas Badger; Zachary Badger (Sophie) and children Lillian and Lucas; Mark Badger; Alexander Badger and daughter Violet; Aaron Badger; and Justin Badger.

Jean will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her interest in art and culture, and the many years she shared with those she loved.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Indianapolis Museum of Art in Jean’s honor. 

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Saturday, October 17th, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at: Arnold Rubin & Nelson Mortuary and Crematorium - 11411 North Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077.
