Irene Csillag Engel

The family of Irene Csillag Engel, Carmel, IN, is sad to inform you that she passed away on May 19, 2024, at age 77. She was born in Hungary to Paul and Rose Csillag and emigrated to the US in 1956.

Irene graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1966 and attended Central Business School after high school. She did clinical work for several companies before retiring to raise her family.  In spite of some very challenging health issues, Irene was a dedicated volunteer throughout her lifetime.

Among her many interests, some of her favorites were Mah Jong, Solitaire, attending movies and concerts with Andy and riding her tricycle. She was long time member of PrimeLife Enrichment Center, Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation (IHC) and its sisterhood.

Irene is survived by her husband, Andrew Engel, and children Jeffrey Engel and Laura Engel (Don), her sister Pauline January (Larry), and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joe Star (Roberta), as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Irene’s funeral will be held at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral Home, 11411 N. Michigan Road, on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 11 AM, with visitation starting at 10 AM. Her burial will follow at Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery.
