Fernande (Hirsch) Frankovitz

October 26, 1933 — January 17, 2024

Fernande Frankovitz was born in Paris, France to David and Rosa Hirsch on October 26, 1933. Her childhood was interrupted by the Nazi invasion of France during World War II. When she was eight years old, Fern left Paris to go into hiding.

She spent the rest of the war in Mont Coeur, a small village outside of Paris. After the war she was reunited with her father and brother and eventually immigrated to Indianapolis.  Her mother and sister perished at Auschwitz in 1943.

Fern attended Shortridge High School and was a member of Hadassah, ORT and Congregation Beth El Zedeck.

She always enjoyed traveling to numerous destinations and spending time with her family.

She resided for almost forty years in Miami, FL, spending the last few years of her life back in Indianapolis.

She is survived by her sons, Ron Frankovitz of Carmel, Indiana and Bill Frankovitz (Jeannie) of Indianapolis, Indiana; and grandsons, Mitchell Frankovitz of New York City and Nathan Frankovitz of New York City.  Fern will be remembered dearly by many friends and family.

Fern was preceded in death by her husbands, Morris Frankovitz and Israel Gruenspan; as well her brother, Michel; sister, Marthe; and parents.

Graveside services will be at Congregation B’nai Torah Cemetery on Sunday, January 21st at 3 pm. Bnai Torah Cemetery on Google Maps

Shiva will be observed from 5-8:00 pm on Sunday at the home of Ron, 3819 Brigade Circle.
