Doreen Nahmias, a beloved member of the Indianapolis community, passed away on January 23, 2026, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Doreen was born in Indianapolis on July 6, 1934, to Ike Sax and Esther Sacks. She fondly remembered her early years at John Strange Elementary School and was a proud graduate of Shortridge High School, including a memorable year of high school in Long Beach, California.
After obtaining her beautician’s license, Doreen provided hairstyling and nail care for many years, until her marriage to her beloved husband of 54 years, Meyer Nahmias.
Doreen was an active and devoted member of Etz Chaim Sisterhood, where her delicious baked goods were always appreciated. She enjoyed participating in Mother-Daughter Luncheons and directing talent show fundraisers—thoughtfully overseeing the costumes as well. Doreen was very creative and artistically talented, as a gifted watercolor and acrylic painter as well as prolific crocheting and knitting talents.
Doreen is survived by her four daughters, Esther (Kirk) Mueller, Shelley Meltzer, Amy (Tom) Grimmer, and Paula Nahmias (Phil Cohn); her grandchildren, Michelle Meltzer, Miles Grimmer, Meghan (Justin) Klausner, and Makena Mueller (Logan Cowan); her great-grandchild, Jules Klausner; her sister, Helene Stickler and her nieces and nephews with whom she shared a special bond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Meyer; her parents; and her brothers, Danny and Bob Sacks.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Etz Chaim Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Deborah Sisterhood.
May her memory be for blessing.
