Dona J. Walters

Nov 12, 1943 — Oct 1, 2026

Carmel

Dona J. Walters, born Dona Jean Angel, passed away at home in Carmel on October 1, 2026, after a long battle with a rare disease, Corticobasal Degeneration. She was born on November 12, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Lafe Walters; her daughter, Tiffany Moore (Scott Moore); and her son, Trent Walters (Jennifer Benson) as well as her six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, William Angel; mother, Virginia Lee (GG) Angel; and brothers, Bill Angel and Kenny Angel.

Like her maiden name, she was an angel: genuine, nurturing, loving, honest, and deeply selfless. She had an extraordinary ability to make people feel cared for, and she gave her love without asking for anything in return. To her family, she was quite simply the best person they had ever known.

Her grandchildren were the greatest joy of her life. She treasured every minute with them. She was there to comfort them when they were sick, cheer them on from the stands at their sporting events, and celebrate all of life's important moments alongside them. She never wanted to miss a thing. Being their grandparent was one of the greatest gifts of her life.

She was an amazing seamstress who could make beautiful clothes from scratch, and she was equally at home in the kitchen. She loved to cook and could spend hours reading cookbooks from cover to cover, treating them like novels. She was also the family's human GPS, somehow always knowing exactly where to go and how to get there.

She lived her life with a generous heart and genuine love for others. She nurtured, she cared, she showed up, and she loved deeply. Her kindness, honesty, and unwavering love made her the kind of person who was impossible to replace, and her family will carry the example she set with them forever.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on October 9, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road, Zionsville, Indiana 46077. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM at the mortuary.

For anyone who wants to make a memorial contribution, the family asks for those be made to NeuroHope, an organization that became a very special part of her journey. She attended NeuroHope several times each week (even up to a few weeks before her passing), working tirelessly to try and maintain her ability to stand. She loved her time there and was so grateful for the compassionate, encouraging people who supported her along the way. The family would be honored to have others support NeuroHope in her memory.
