Darlene Thomas

Born in the early stages of the Great Depression, Darlene survived rheumatic fever, World War II, the Korean conflict, polio, the Cold War, climate change and Covid but couldn’t beat a leaky heart valve. She died June 21, 2022.

She was born July 23, 1932 in Jeffersonville, Indiana to Millard and Una Mae Tharp. Although she lived in Indianapolis over 65 years, she still considered Jeffersonville “down home.” She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Tommy and Ronnie Tharp.

Darlene is survived by her son Dale (Lynn) Thomas, grandsons Cole (Natalie) Thomas and Trent Thomas, as well as, nieces and nephews; Aaron (Brenda) Tharp, Pam (Rick) Rein and Lisa (Fred) Truman. She leaves behind many lifelong friends, many of which were made while working for IU Hospital.

A celebration service will be held at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 3000 N. High School Road, Indianapolis, Indiana on July 6th at 2 PM. Interment of ashes will be “down home” next to her parents on Friday, July 8th, in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Jeffersonville.
