Clifford Catlin Chapman, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on December 5, 2022, after an 8-year battle with cancer at the age of 77.  Cliff was born to Gilbert and Rosemary (Stum) Chapman in Indianapolis, Indiana at Coleman Women’s Hospital.  He married Barbara Walker of Westfield, Illinois on June 28, 1969, at the home of the bride’s parents.

Cliff graduated from Martinsville, Illinois High School in 1964.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1966.  Cliff worked at Velsicol, Standard Oil, Marathon Oil and retired from Johnson Controls in 2001.

Cliff loved his family, friends, and vehicles.  He enjoyed car shows, town festivals, day trips and coffee with his friends at Brunchies.  He rarely missed attending the Vickery Men’s Group at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and was a 45-year Mason at the Marshall Illinois Masonic Lodge.

Cliff is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his son, John; sister, Pam Craig, Letha McCarty, and Marolyn Hollinrake; many nieces and nephews and his best friend, Tom Hendrix of Casey, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother, Vern Chapman and sister, Wanda Carman.

Cliff was diagnosed with Wegener’s Disease in 2000.  His doctors affectionately referred to Cliff as the “miracle man” for living with Stage 4 cancer for 8 years, and for surviving 30-days on life support.  He truly battled against his illness.

There will be a graveside service held in Illinois at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vickery Men’s Group at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis, In 46260.
