Christopher Wayne Walson

Christopher Wayne Walson passed away on July 5th, 2022.  He was born February 3rd, 1974 in Moline, IL.  Chris was in such a hurry to enter the world that he was born in the front seat of his parents’ car on the way to the hospital.

Chris graduated from North Central High School in Indianapolis in 1992.  After graduation, he spent a year performing voluntary service at the Meyers Medical Clinic in Philippi, West Virginia.  After returning from West Virginia, Chris attended Goshen College for two years. During this time, he performed missions work in Côte d'Ivoire and southern Russia.  After leaving Goshen College, he lived in northern Indiana for several years, attended Bethel College, and completed a Medical Assistant Certificate at Ivy Tech State College.  He returned to Indianapolis in the early 2000’s.

His friends and family knew Chris as a kind person and a devout and committed Christian.  He loved reading, and his bookshelves were full of Bibles and books about Christian philosophy and missionary service.  He was a naturally gifted singer and used his tenor voice in church and in high school and college choirs.  He also loved traveling, especially by train, and looked forward to vacations with his father.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ellen Nafziger Walson.  He is survived by father and step-mother, Robert and Emilie Walson; brother, Alex Walson; brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Karen Walson; step-sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Todd Rider and their children, Ben and Sarah; and step-brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Christine Seitz, and their children, Jacob, Mary, and Hannah.

An internment service will be held on Wednesday, July 13th at 1 PM CST at the Hopedale Mennonite Cemetery, 1818 IL Route 122, Hopedale, IL.  Immediately after the service, there will be a community gathering at the Hopedale Mennonite Church, 5192 Hopedale Road.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 27th at 1 PM at First Mennonite Church, 4601 Knollton Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46228.  The service will be live-streamed and recorded.

In lieu of other tributes, the family requests that donations be made in Chris’ memory to either NAMI Indiana or the Circle City Clubhouse in Indianapolis .
