Carrie Jo Tishler

Carrie Jo (Enger) Tishler passed away Friday, July 17, 2026. She was born in Chicago and grew up in Rosemont, IL. Her family moved to Stevens Point, WI, her freshman year of high school, where Carrie excelled as a student/athlete. She attended Univ. of Wisconsin at Stevens Point on a track & field scholarship and graduated Top 1% with a BA in Advertising.

Soon after graduation, Carrie and her brother made the fateful decision to move to Florida. They opened a sandwich shop in Tampa. A goofy, undeserving guy walked in one day, saw Carrie, and their lives changed forever. Harry and Carrie married on May 10, 1997, on a beach in Key West, FL, surrounded by family and friends. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Coby, a year later. Carrie would go on to teach hundreds of kids over many years at Beth El Zedeck Sunday School in Indianapolis. She volunteered extensively and worked with seniors in transition, the Boone County Humane Society, and Oinking Acres Animal Rescue & Sanctuary.

Serene, yes, but a woman of steel. In times of joy, crisis, or sorrow, family and friends turned to Carrie for her clear thinking and care. She was drawn to the overlooked, the vulnerable, the isolated, the handicapped, the elderly - both humans and animals. They were seen, accepted, protected, and made safe. We all were.

If you were near, you were swept into Carrie’s bubble of music, nature, and simplicity. Herbs, flowers, and vegetables, and birds that found seed and sanctuary in her backyard; paths she walked along the Zionsville parks; a newly hatched egg, odd or misshapen, that to her was perfection. Together you would share her humor and curiosity. Quietly, as was her way, Carrie’s purity of love will reside and grow in us forever.

Carrie is survived by husband Harry Tishler and daughter Coby Tishler of Indianapolis, IN; mother Renee Enger and brother Curt Enger; Xander Enger; Marnee (John) Seitz; LaVere Sell (Teresa); Michael (Allison) Seitz; Nicole (Nate) Porcher: Jennie (Jeff) Nykaza, Lizzie (Rich) Cesario; Charlie Schalkowski; and LaVere Macari (Lisa); mother-in-law Doris Kort Tishler; Susan (John) Francis, Nancy Tishler, and Jennifer Tishler and Fred Tishler. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Close friends Kim Bolender, Jane (Mark) Elliott, Susie Maley (Hector); Meesam, Salwa, and Hurr Zaheer. She was predeceased by her father, Leslie Enger. (And pets Cecelia, Wally, Sigmund, Ruthie, Merle, and Peter).
