Carol Brooks Gardner, 78, formerly of Berkeley, California, passed away on June 1 in Indianapolis, where she lived since 1986. She was a professor of sociology at IUPUI for almost thirty years and author of the book Passing By: Gender and Public Harassment, published by University of California Press in 1995.
Carol was born on March 1, 1948, in Newark, New Jersey, to Carl and Alice Pfuderer. She was a graduate of UC Berkeley, where she earned her undergraduate degree in linguistics, and the University of Pennsylvania, where she obtained her PhD in sociology.
Carol is survived by her beloved daughter, Abigail Dembo, and her former husband, William Gronfein.
Carol loved gardening and all animals. She cared deeply about animal rescue. Donations in her memory can be made to PNC Midwest Rescue Community.
