Beverly Bercovitz, 90, passed away on April 28, 2024. Beverly was born in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Herman and Matilda Porges. She grew up in Anderson, Indiana, and graduated from Indiana University. Beverly met her late husband, Phil, during her first year at I.U. Beverly and Phil raised their children in Indianapolis and were longtime members of Congregation Beth Zedeck, where Beverly taught religious school for many years. Beverly was a member of Riley Cheer Guild, Hadassah, Beth-El Zedeck's Sisterhood, and Hooverwood Guild. Beverly served multiple terms as president of Hadassah and received the George H.W. Bush Points of Light Award for Volunteerism for co-founding Riley Hospital’s program for rocking newborns in the NICU.
Beverly is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Marilyn) Bercovitz and Fran (Terry Stewart) Susskind; grandchildren, Hilary (Scott Freeman) Bercovitz, Robert Bercovitz, Emily (Jason) Markovitz, Carrie (Erik Shipley) Susskind, and Melanie (Joey) Sutow; and great-grandchildren, Sylvie Kei Markovitz and Max J. Markovitz. She was preceded in death by her sister, Florence Don.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral Home, 11411 N. Michigan Road, Zionsville, IN 46077, with burial following in Beth-El Zedeck Cemetery North.
