Professionally, she was an educator, teaching Spanish at Santa Fe and Coral Gables High Schools and later instilling a passion for reading and persuasive writing in students at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School lucky enough to be in “Mrs. Huck’s Reading Class.” She expanded her repertoire to college counseling and advised students and parents at Palmer Trinity School, Indian Springs School, Charlotte Latin School, and Shorecrest Preparatory Academy.

Her community service in Miami was extensive, including terms as President of the Junior League of Miami and the Beaux Arts and service on Miami Citizens Against Crime.

Betty is predeceased by her parents, Antonio Cortina and Maria de los Angeles Canton, her stepfather, Antonio Canton, her sister, Margaret Ashbridge, and her niece, Diane Ashbridge Gray.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
