Barbara A. Cohen

Barbara A. Cohen, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away April 1, 2024. 

Barbara was born in Rushville, Indiana to Robert and Sylvia Barger on November 23, 1955. After attending college, she became a licensed practical nurse and practiced until she married her husband and settled down to raise their family. Barbara was a member of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation and actively served on their cemetery committee. Her dedication to this cause reflected her commitment not only to her community, but to the memory of her daughter, Sarah, as she was buried there in 2009.

Barbara was also heavily involved with the Riley Children’s Foundation and established their pet therapy program.  She truly leaves a legacy of her unique way of caring for others through years of support and advocacy.

She is survived by her parents, Robert and Sylvia Barger; husband, James S. Cohen; son, Benjamin (Marisa) Cohen; grandchildren, Quentin Cohen and Kinley Cohen; sister, Debra (William) Hallberg; brother, John (Julie) Barger; and brother-in-law, David Lee (Alicia) Cohen.

Funeral services will be held at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Road, on Friday, April 5th at 11 AM with burial in Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation North Cemetery. Following the interment, friends and family are invited to return to the funeral home for a reception from 1 – 4 PM.

Memorial contributions may be made to the IHC Cemetery Fund or Riley Children's Foundation.
