Anya I. Shapiro passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, in Carmel, Indiana. She was born on October 3, 1931, in Kyiv, Ukraine, to the late Isaac Abramovich Rubinov and Malcha Bentzi Kvitnaya Rubinova. She lived a life marked by dedication and kindness, leaving an indelible impact on all who knew her.
Anya devoted her career to shaping young minds as a kindergarten teacher. Her passion for education and nurturing children's early development was evident in her patient and encouraging approach. She earned a Bachelor's Degree, which laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to teaching and learning.
Her journey began far from the quiet communities she later called home, originating in the historic and vibrant city of Kyiv. Throughout her years, she carried with her the rich cultural heritage of her birthplace while embracing the opportunities and experiences in the United States.
Anya is survived by her sons, Vladimir (Irnia) Shapiro, and Alexander (Olga) Shapiro; grandchildren Elina, Igor, Stanislav (Hannah), Maria, and Svetlana. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Shapiro.
A graveside service to honor and celebrate Anya’s life will be held on June 16, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Beth El Zedeck North Cemetery, 9938 Eller Road, Fishers, Indiana.
Anya’s legacy is one of compassion, dedication, and education. She is remembered with respect and admiration for the positive influence she imparted to her students and all those around her. Her presence will be deeply missed but fondly cherished.
