Amy Popp

November 17, 1966 — June 15, 2024

Indianapolis

Amy Lynn Popp, 57 years young, died an agonizing five weeks after collapsing unexpectedly and suffering a cardiac arrest. Amy was the most amazing mom, sister, daughter, aunt, cousin, friend, audiologist, volunteer, and sports enthusiast. Amy was simply a good human.

Amy was born in Indianapolis to the late Ronald and Susan Popp in 1966. She joined her older sisters Lori and (Julie) Beth. She had a joyful childhood, attending Greenbriar Elementary, Westlane Junior High, and North Central High School. She then studied speech-language pathology at Miami University of Ohio and earned a master's degree in Audiology from the Central Institute for the Deaf (CID) at Washington University in St Louis. Later, Amy earned a clinical doctorate in Audiology from Central Michigan University. Wherever Amy went, she acquired friends who she treasured as family. And who treasured her.

Upon graduation Amy moved to “the Big Apple” to work at Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital where pioneering work in cochlear implants was being done. She began a career that meant so much to her and at which she excelled, helping countless people over more than 3 decades in the field. It was in NYC that she started working at Laura Geller Studio to help pay her crazy high Manhattan rent. Like so many others, that friendship continues.

In 2001, Amy made a significant move to Dallas, not just for career opportunities, but to be closer to her family. Her cousins, Daniel and Anna Popp, and their daughters, Kalia and Gabi, were not just relatives, but cherished members of her inner circle. Amy's decision to prioritize family closeness is a testament to her values and love for her kin.

Amy's greatest joy and fulfillment came from being a mother to her daughter, Jillian. Her love for Jillian was boundless, and it was evident in the way she raised her. Jillian, a reflection of Amy's best qualities, is a living testament to the incredible mother that Amy was. We are all forever grateful for the gift Amy gave us in bringing Jillian into the world.

While we didn’t have enough time with her in person, we promised to follow her wishes for the future. We will all continue to be there for Jillian and one other.

In addition to her mother, Susan Popp, and daughter Jillian Popp, survivors include her sisters Lori (Gary) Popp Moss and Beth Popp (Abshalom Meiri), Nephews Ethan (Rachel) and Mark (Dana) Moss, Raphael, Yonatan, Ephraim, and Binyamin Meiri, cousins, great nieces and nephews, dear friends, and, of course, her dog Tootsie.

Funeral services will be held on June 18, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation, 6501 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260.  The funeral will be live-streamed, which can be found on the IHC website.  Burial will follow in IHC North Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Amy's memory and honor may be made to a fund for Jillian's education. This information will be forthcoming.

We are collecting personal stories, memories, thoughts, and/or pictures about Amy’s friends and family’s relationship with her. We plan to assemble them into a book to provide ongoing comfort for Jillian and our family. Please send what you would like to have included by email to Lori Moss, Anna Popp, or Beth Popp.   There will also be an opportunity to write thoughts, memories, and messages to Jillian at the funeral service.

Family and Friends can make donations by making checks payable to Raymond James and add "For Jillian Popp" in the memo line.
