Mildred Alice Thompson, 98, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully 5 days before her 99th birthday on October 19, 2023. She was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Joseph and Rose Cerveny on Oct 24, 1924.
She earned her high school diploma and then worked as a clerk. During WW2, Mildred worked as a civilian typist for the Air Force before meeting and marrying her husband. She and Rupert had three children, and Mildred's greatest joy was caring for her family. Mildred enjoyed her church family as well.
Mildred decided she needed to help the family by working outside the home. So when the children were still young, she secured a sales associate job at JC Penney Co where she worked for 30 years. She really enjoyed working there. In 2001, Mildred and Rupert moved to Holley Court Terrace (Brookdale), a senior living community. Mildred thrived there. She loved all the friendships she made, and was proud to be elected as President of the resident association.
In 2016 she moved to Carmel, Indiana and lived with her daughter and son-in-law until her passing. Time spent with family brought her the greatest pleasure in life. She loved being a part of the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mildred is survived by her daughters, Carol (John) Gasa and Gail Hester; grandchildren, Randy (Angela) Gasa, Todd (Beth) Hester, and Holly Hester; and great-grandchildren, Keira and Andrew Gasa, Beckett and Redding Hester, and Athena and Emrys Reilly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rupert Thompson; and her son, Scott Thompson (Karen Karcher).
Arrangements by ARN Funeral & Cremation Services. Memorial services will be held privately.
